How to Use Nano Banana in Photoshop (2026 Guide)
Nano Banana is built into Photoshop. Adobe added Google’s Gemini image models to Generative Fill as “partner models”, next to its own Firefly models, starting with Nano Banana in late 2025. You do not need a separate plugin.
How to use Nano Banana in Photoshop
- Update Photoshop to the current version from the Creative Cloud app.
- Open your image and make a selection (or select the whole canvas for a full-image edit).
- Click Generative Fill in the contextual task bar.
- Open the model menu and choose a Gemini partner model: Gemini 3.1 (Nano Banana 2), Gemini 3 (Nano Banana Pro) or Gemini 2.5 (Nano Banana).
- Describe the change and click Generate. The result lands on a new layer you can mask and adjust.
Which Nano Banana version to pick
| Model in Photoshop | Best for |
|---|---|
| Gemini 3.1 (Nano Banana 2) | Most edits: fast, good quality |
| Gemini 3 (Nano Banana Pro) | Fine detail, text on objects, complex scenes |
| Gemini 2.5 (Nano Banana) | Older model; Google has deprecated it in its API |
What it costs
Partner models use more Adobe generative credits than Firefly. Nano Banana Pro has been listed at up to 40 credits per generation, against 1 for a standard Firefly fill, and some Adobe prices are marked as limited-time, so check Adobe’s partner model page for the current numbers. Partner models also return one result per generation, while Firefly returns several variations. A single-app Photoshop plan includes a small monthly allowance, so heavy Nano Banana use needs a plan with more credits.
Nano Banana not working in Photoshop?
- No Gemini option in the menu: update Photoshop, then check that you are signed in and that partner models are allowed on your account (some business and education accounts disable them).
- Out of credits: partner fills stop when your generative credits run out.
- Blocked results: Google’s and Adobe’s content rules both apply, so some edits of real people are refused.
- Soft or mismatched fills: select a slightly larger area than the object, and describe the light so the fill matches the photo.
If the problem is in the Gemini app, AI Studio or the API rather than Photoshop, see Nano Banana not working.
Photoshop or a browser studio?
Photoshop is the best place when Nano Banana is one step in a layered retouching workflow. If you mainly need generations and quick edits, a browser studio like Nano Banana AI runs Nano Banana 2 and Pro at up to 4K on a simple credit plan, and you can bring the results into Photoshop afterwards. Ready-made edit instructions are on Nano Banana photo editing prompts.
Frequently asked questions
Is there a Nano Banana plugin for Photoshop?
You do not need one. Nano Banana is built into Photoshop’s Generative Fill as a partner model; update Photoshop and choose it from the model menu.
Is Nano Banana free in Photoshop?
No. Each Nano Banana fill uses Adobe generative credits from your plan, at a higher rate than Firefly’s own models.
How do I get Nano Banana Pro in Photoshop?
In Generative Fill, open the model menu and choose Gemini 3 (Nano Banana Pro). It costs more credits per fill than Nano Banana 2.
Why is Nano Banana not showing in Photoshop?
Update Photoshop, sign in again and check that your account allows partner models. Some managed accounts turn them off.
