Can Nano Banana Make Videos? (And What to Use Instead)
No, Nano Banana cannot make videos. Every Nano Banana model, from the original to Nano Banana Pro and Nano Banana 2, returns still images only. It also cannot export animated GIFs.
What you see in "Nano Banana video" clips online is a two-step workflow: people create the frames with Nano Banana, then animate them with a separate video model such as Google’s Veo. Nano Banana is very good at the first step, because it keeps faces, outfits and products consistent from one image to the next.
What Nano Banana outputs
- Still images (PNG or JPEG), from about 1K up to 4K depending on the model.
- One image per request, or several images from separate requests.
- No motion, no audio, no animated formats.
The Nano Banana to video workflow
- Make the start frame. Generate or edit the opening shot with Nano Banana 2 or Nano Banana Pro. Describe the subject, the setting, the camera angle and the lighting, because the video model will copy all of it.
- Make an end frame (optional). Ask Nano Banana to edit the start frame into the final pose or scene, for example "same woman, now turning to look over her shoulder". Some video models can move between a first and last frame.
- Animate it. Upload the frame to an image-to-video model and describe the motion and sound you want.
- Edit the clips together. Most image-to-video models make clips of roughly 5 to 10 seconds, so longer videos are several clips joined in an editor.
Where to turn a Nano Banana image into video
| Tool | How it works |
|---|---|
| Gemini app (Veo) | Choose the video option, upload your image and describe the scene. Google added photo-to-video for Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers in July 2025, producing short clips with sound. |
| Google Flow | Google’s filmmaking tool built on Veo. Useful for multi-shot scenes made from your own frames. |
| Other image-to-video models | Kling, Runway, Seedance and similar models also animate a still image. Results and prices vary, so test the same frame on two or three. |
Video generation costs far more than an image. Plan your shots with Nano Banana first, where each attempt is cheap, and only animate the frames you are happy with.
Can Nano Banana make GIFs?
Not directly. You can make a simple GIF by asking Nano Banana for a series of frames with small changes (same character, arm slightly higher each time), then joining the frames in a GIF maker or in Photoshop. For smooth motion, an image-to-video model gives better results; convert the short clip to GIF afterwards.
Tips for frames that animate well
- Keep the subject centered with some empty space around it, so the camera has room to move.
- Avoid text in the frame. Video models often warp letters as they move.
- Use the same aspect ratio as your final video, for example 9:16 for Reels and TikTok or 16:9 for YouTube.
- Generate at 2K or higher when you can. Video models upscale poorly from small, soft images.
